Why visit Campania?
mpania is the region for those who want to take a cultural trip and visit the cradle of Western civilization, see the Royal Palace of Caserta, the archaeological excavations of Paestum and the city buried in the ashes of Pompeii. But it is also the ideal region for those who love the sea and the most authentic sea life, the breathtaking scenery on the islands and the blue sea that bathes the cities of Naples and Salerno. Campania's history starts from Magna Graecia and, passing through Roman rule, arrives at the maritime republics and the Bourbon period. This passage of its history has marked the urban landscape.Campania's cities contain beauty to be seen at least once in a lifetime.
The beauties of Campania
Naples
Naples is a lively, dynamic, bustling city. The regional capital is a multifaceted city that will leave you breathless. It rises on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius and is perfectly connected to all the surrounding attractions such as the Amalfi Coast and Salerno, islands like Ischia, Capri and Procida, and much more. Bathed by the sea, Naples is the perfect combination of good food, cutting-edge art and architecture, and dreamy locations overlooking one of Italy's most beautiful gulfs.
Don't miss a stroll through Spaccanapoli, the street that cuts the UNESCO World Heritage-listed historic center in half, as well as one to San Gregorio Armeno or the Rione Sanità to see Jorit's murals. For foodies, Naples has no shortage of street food done properly, and to finish off with a nice Neapolitan coffee in Piazza del Plebiscito, the beautiful square at the heart of the city.
The Royal Palace of Caserta
Not far from Naples it is possible to visit the Versailles of Italy, the Royal Palace of Caserta. Built in the 18th century by the King of Naples Charles of Bourbon, the complex built was intended to keep up with the palaces built in European capitals. Architect Luigi Vanvitelli was the creator of this splendid villa in the countryside north of Naples. The royal palace spans a height of 5 stories, and inside you can see the Palatine Chapel, made in the image of the Chapel of the Palace of Versailles. Behind the Palace is the fantastic Royal Park with the Waterway fragmented by statues and fountains including, in order from first to last:
- The Marguerite Fountain
- The Fountain of the Three Dolphins
- The Fountain of Aeolus
- The Fountain of Ceres
- The Fountain of Venus and Adonis
The Royal Palace of Caserta is a unique spectacle in the world, unsurpassed in beauty and majesty.
Pompeii and Paestum
The archaeological excavations of Paestum and Velia, in the Cilento Park, are a testament to the greatness of these cities during Ancient Greece. Pompeii is perhaps the main attraction in all of Campania and, along with the remains of Herculaneum, it is a World Heritage site in which it still holds extraordinary surprises that are being unearthed after centuries. The cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum have the distinction of having remained exactly as they were, buried by the ash of the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD.
The Amalfi Coast
If there is one thing worth seeing in Campania this can only be the Amalfi Coast. Also called the Divine, this is one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in Italy. Not only beaches, the Coast is crisscrossed by wonderful towns all worth exploring. It is no coincidence that international stars often choose the Amalfi Coast for their summer vacations to enjoy some relaxation and a moment of pure beauty.
Vietri sul mare
This village near Salerno is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its traditional pottery making. In the town you will have the opportunity to admire breathtaking views of the sea rich in shades of color.
Ravello
This town is located inland from Salerno and is known as the city of music. Although it does not directly overlook the sea, Ravello is a town to experience to the fullest and where you can take wonderful photos all to post on social media.
Amalfi
The Coast's brightest pearl is undoubtedly Amalfi, which, with its cathedral, attracts many worshippers and art lovers. Don't miss the decorations inside the cathedral dedicated to the city's patron saint, St. Andrew.
Positano
Not only the sea, in Positano you can also venture on the famous path that connects the town to Agerola and undertake the trekking of the Gods. The Path of the Gods is a wonderful path immersed in the colors of the Mediterranean maquis and with several unforgettable sea scenes.
