MINI GUIDE: WHAT TO VISIT IN POLIGNANO A MARE
Start your visit to Polignano a Mare and walk along the ancient path of Lama Monachile, made up of numerous stone steps carved out of rock, down to the sea where you'll find a beach of white pebbles protected by rocky walls. Polignano a Mare is known for its historic center built on a rocky spur, where white houses stand out against the intense blue of the sea which has been awarded the Blue Flag since 2008. Polignano is also the birthplace of the famous singer-songwriter Domenico Modugno, whose life-sized statue can be admired on the waterfront.
Begin your visit from the remains of the old Via Traiana, the road built by the ancient Romans that connected Rome to the Port of Brindisi, where you'll find the most famous beach of Polignano. Reach Piazza dell'Orologio, Piazza San Benedetto and stroll through the narrow alleys where you can read the poems and thoughts scattered on the walls of the streets. Don't miss the Arco Marchesale and the Ponte di Polignano. Visit important churches and monuments such as the Church of Sant'Antonio, San Cosma e Damiano, the Palazzo Marchesale, and the Church of Santa Maria Assunta.

Don't miss the intorchiate, almond sweets in the shape of twisted and elongated taralli that wrap around three almonds, Grano a Me'rè, a special dish made of wheat and beans and seafood, the fiorona, a fig-based cake, rice, potatoes and mussels, the favas with chicory, and the exquisite eggplant parmigiana.
