Mini Guide, what to visit in Venice and Genoa
Visit the historic and refined city of Venice, consecrated unique in the world, a miracle on the water, an open-air museum. Are you looking for a train to Venice for your next vacation? So get on board Italo and reach the ancient lagoon city that continues to conquer the hearts of visitors from all over the world with its bridges, canals and squares that just ask to be discovered. To give yourself all the charm of Venice, discover the city from two different perspectives: walking on foot to admire the enchanting views, or relaxing lulled by the gentle sway of a gondola.
For a one-day round trip, the unmissable destinations are: the scenic Piazza San Marco considered the living room of Venice, the sumptuous Basilica of San Marco, a unique example of western-eastern architecture thanks to the grandiose gold mosaics, the inlaid floors and colored marbles; the Doge's Palace with the doge's private apartments, as well as the famous Bridge of Sighs which was even crossed by Casanova during his escape.
If it's time for a snack break, the advice is to take a seat in one of the historic cafes in Piazza San Marco, where you can breathe the whole atmosphere of the city of the lagoon. The Rialto Bridge, the king of all bridges, is certainly an indispensable passage, from which it is possible to see the Grand Canal from a different perspective. Obviously, by extending this path, you can visit as many treasures as, for example, the Accademia Galleries, the San Zaccaria Church or the La Fenice Theater.
If the glimpses of the canals of Venice weren't enough, jump on the first ferry and let yourself be enchanted by the nearby islands of Burano, Murano and Torcello which preserve the most authentic traditions of Venice: Burano famous for its colorful houses and for the craftsmanship of lace; Murano known throughout the world for the ancient tradition of glass processing and Torcello mystical island that combines intense spirituality with numerous artistic testimonies.
Venice is undoubtedly a city that fascinates all year round, but which the carnival makes even more magical. The Venetian carnival is in fact one of the most famous in the world and certainly an event to participate in at least once in a lifetime. Wear one of the traditional costumes and get involved in this suggestive popular festival considered unique for its history, masks and atmosphere!
And if you have organized your trip to Venice on the third weekend of July, you absolutely cannot miss the Festa del Redentore, with hundreds of boats pouring into the canals forming a long bridge over the Giudecca Canal and ending with an unforgettable fireworks display that lights up the lagoon. All that remains is to pack your bags and leave by train to discover this unique city in the world!

Genoa is the Superb, Genoa is the pesto, the focaccia, the Aquarium, the Caruggi and the Palazzo Ducale. Genoa is a city in Northern Italy that almost looks like Southern Italy. In Genoa it is difficult to find convenient and cheap parking, so it is advisable to arrive by train. The Piazza Principe station is central and not far from the Porto Antico and the alleys of the center, which can also be easily reached on foot. Genoa is a city known above all for its port but rich in history, hidden treasures and suggestive corners. The history of Genoa is told along Via Garibaldi and the Rolli, homes of the noble Genoese families rich in works of art. The ancient maritime republic offers many testimonies of its past but also modern works, such as the Bigo, which make it a capital of modern Italian architecture. Walking through the city you can admire noble palaces and ancient churches, the characteristic alleys (caruggi) of the old city, visit the museums, the Old Port and the symbols of the new Genoa: the Aquarium and the Biosphere. In the historic center, partly a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Caruggi, ancient medieval alleys and the Creuze, narrow streets enclosed between sumptuous and ancient buildings, are worth a visit. You can admire the Royal Palace, the Spinola Palace, the Ducal Palace, Piazza De Ferrari, the Carlo Felice Theater, the Villa del Principe and the Cathedral of San Lorenzo which, rising on Piazza San Lorenzo, dominates the internal panorama of the center where see the numerous taverns in the alleys to taste the typical Genoese cuisine. Also worth visiting is the Galata Museo del Mare, the Nazario Sauro submarine and the Lanterna.
Are there beaches in Genoa?
Outside the center, you can experience the atmosphere of the Cinque Terre, in the old fishermen's quarter of Boccadasse, where there is one of the most beautiful beaches in the city. Boccadasse is a small village within the city where you can admire the small boats stranded on the beach, the rusty gates and balconies overlooking a breathtaking view from the Mediterranean area. To find other beaches you have to get to Quarto, Quinto and Nervi or take a boat to San Fruttuoso in the Bay of Camogli for a tan in front of a 10th century monastery. A real paradise to see a typical Ligurian marina. Camogli is a very characteristic village where the sea, the beach, the shops and fish restaurants make it an unmissable destination not only for the Genoese but especially for those traveling as a couple.
