    Travel to Verona

For your next romantic getaway, take a train to Verona with Italo and discover the everlasting charm of this city. Verona is the land of love par excellence: William Shakespeare chose it as the stage to set the tragedy of his two famous lovers Romeo and Juliet. Every year, thousands of visitors travel to Verona to seal their love with a padlock on the gate that leads to the legendary balcony where Romeo and Juliet had their famous meeting. Verona is a city that thrives on history. Its Roman origins have earned it the title of Unesco World Heritage, thanks above all to the spectacular historic center dotted with Roman and medieval finds. For a round trip in the day, the unmissable destinations are: Piazza Bra with the imposing Arena, the ancient Piazza delle Erbe where the Lamberti Tower dominates from above, as well as Juliet's house with the bronze statue and the famous balcony. From here, with two steps and crossing the Arco della Costa, you reach Piazza dei Signori and then continuing you come across the Castelvecchio and the Scaligero bridge, splendid testimonies of the Della Scala family. After enjoying a lunch with a view of the Arena in one of the excellent restaurants in the city, among bigoli, gnocchi and pandoro, if you don´t want to miss the opportunity to go shopping, Via Mazzini will satisfy your every desire! But Verona is not only art and if you are ready for an outing, we remind you that the city is only 20 minutes from the waters of Lake Garda, home of wind surfing and sailing, with picturesque villages on the water in the middle of the olive trees. Verona is also the world capital of wine and this passion translates into a world-famous food and wine event: Vinitaly, the wine fair that hosts thousands of tasters every year in April. All that remains is to hurry to pack your bags and leave by train to discover this romantic city. Don't forget to consult the Italo website to find the best offers for Verona.

    TRAIN TICKETS FOGGIA - VERONA
    Travel to Foggia

Foggia, a city of about 150,000 inhabitants located in the heart of the Tavoliere delle Puglie. This area has been inhabited since the Neolithic, as archaeological finds testify, however it presented important problems due to the marshy terrain, which forced the inhabitants to fight against malaria for a long time: it was necessary to wait for the arrival of the Normans to assist in the reclamation of the area and the beginning of the rise of the city. The town reached its period of maximum splendor during the reign of Frederick II, thanks to the special affection that bound the emperor to the Capitanata, a political division of thirteenth-century Puglia which had Foggia as its capital. Under the rule of the Aragonese, the city became the main hub of the so-called "sheep customs", an occurrence that caused the farmers to abandon the countryside and the beginning of the decline that will culminate in the tragic earthquake of 1731. The slow reconstruction but inexorable, unfortunately it again saw a disaster befall it: the allied bombings of 1943, which razed it to the ground again. But once again Foggia showed extreme stubbornness and rose again from its own ashes. This cyclical alternation of destruction and rebuilding gives the city a variegated appearance, in which the remains of antiquity can be found next to (and below) the modern buildings. The center of Foggia, where all the main attractions are concentrated, can be visited entirely on foot, crossing the colorful stalls of the Rosati market, observing the rationalist architecture of the buildings from the fascist era and strolling in the greenery of the Karol Wojtyla urban park. While exploring the city, there are certainly some places that cannot be missed, such as the most famous examples of religious architecture in the city: the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary Assumed into Heaven (which houses the famous Iconavetere, the Madonna of the Sette Veli), the Church of San Giovanni Battista, the Church of Maria Santissima della Misericordia -Church of the Dead, due to its macabre decorations- and the Church of the Crosses, also known as the Cappellone delle Croci. Among the other recommended stops we find the Civic Museum of Foggia, rich in finds that extend throughout the long history of the city, and the hypogea, where you can see up close the work of stratification of the urban layout over the course of the centuries. Naturally, a visit to Foggia cannot be said to be complete without tasting the authentic delicacies of this land. Among the typical dishes of the Capitanata, legumes and pasta stand out in particular, such as orecchiette, cavatielli, ravioli with ricotta, troccoli, burnt wheat pasta and the wheat of the dead. Among the baked goods we find the classic taralli, the black taralli with vincotto, thescaldatelli, the Indian wheat pizza and the puccia (loaf with black olives). For those with a sweet tooth, we recommend tasting, in addition to the Christmas fried Cartellate, the typical basic almond products, such as almond paste sweets and landed almonds. What are you waiting for? Get on board and get ready for your journey to discover Foggia. Italo allows you to reach Foggia with High Speed thanks to the new direct Turin-Bari section.
