Mini Guide, what to see in Vicenza and Milan
Whether it's for work, a passion for fashion, or a love for design, the reasons to hop on a train to Milan, Italy's most international city, are ever-increasing.
For a day trip, the must-see destinations in Milan include the Duomo with its famous Madonnina statue, the iconic Castello Sforzesco, the Church of Sant'Ambrogio, Piazza della Scala with its renowned Teatro alla Scala, and the grand Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.
From here, it's just a short walk to Italy's most famous department store, la Rinascente. And with only a ten-minute walk, you can reach the Fashion Quadrangle, the ultimate shopping district, encompassed by the four streets of via Montenapoleone, via Manzoni, via della Spiga, and Corso Venezia.
Every year, Milan's design week attracts professionals from all over the world, and the Brera and Tortona districts come alive with off-salon events showcasing the best of Milanese nightlife.
To explore the city's trendiest area, head down to Darsena and discover its famous canals, Naviglio Pavese and Naviglio Grande.
But Milan is also about art, where you can admire Leonardo da Vinci's masterpiece, The Last Supper, or visit exhibitions at the Pinacoteca di Brera, the Triennale, or the exhibitions at the Prada Foundation.
The city of Milan, the engine of the country's economy and home to the Stock Exchange and the prestigious Bocconi University, also hosts some of Europe's most important fairs and exhibitions. Notable events to mark on your calendar include the Salone del Mobile, Milan Fashion Week, and the Artisan at the Fair.
For a business trip, a visit to the revitalized Porta Nuova area is a must, a project that has enriched Milan's skyline with new skyscrapers, including the Unicredit Tower and the award-winning Bosco Verticale.

Among the most important Venetian cities and the capital of its namesake province, Vicenza stands as a historical and architectural jewel of Northern Italy. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1994, the city owes its fame chiefly to the prestigious name of Andrea Palladio, who freely expressed his genius here, designing and creating some of the world's renowned wonders.
A stroll through the historic center allows one to appreciate many of his works: from the Basilica Palladiana in the central Piazza dei Signori to the Olympic Theatre, from Palazzo Breganze to Palazzo Chiericati, which today houses an art gallery.
Vicenza is rich in churches and basilicas, among which the Cathedral of Santa Maria Annunciata and the Church of Santa Corona stand out. The latter also houses Palladio's tomb. The city also boasts notable museums (most prominent are the Pinacoteca, the Naturalistic Archaeological Museum, and the Museum of the Risorgimento and Resistance) and several enjoyable green areas like Campo Marzo, Parco Querini, and Giardini Salvi.
But Vicenza's beauties extend beyond the city center, reaching as far as Villa Almerico-Capra, known as "La Rotonda," a magnificent Palladian country house, and the Basilica of Monte Berico, situated on a hill overlooking the city.
A lively tourist destination throughout the year, Vicenza especially comes alive during the many cultural events it hosts. The month of May features the Biblical Festival and the New Conversation Vicenza Jazz festival.
It's not just about culture; the city also offers plenty of shopping opportunities, especially in many high-end shops scattered between Corso Fogazzaro and Corso Palladio and within the imposing Palladio and Le Piramidi shopping centers, just 10 minutes from the historic center.
Over recent decades, Vicenza has also emerged as an important industrial hub, home to major companies in the textile, metalworking sectors, and especially the processing of precious metals and jewelry. Hence, it's dubbed the "Italian capital of gold" and hosts the annual VicenzaOro Fair, an event of international allure.
Wondering about the local delicacies in Vicenza? Undoubtedly, the king of the table is the flavorful baccalà alla vicentina, but local cuisine offers many other dishes based on the region's excellence: Veneto Berico Euganeo ham, Asiago cheese, soppressa vicentina, just to name a few. And for drinks? Of course, one of the outstanding DOC wines or a local grappa.
Wondering how to reach this magnificent city? Italo lets you arrive in Vicenza quickly and comfortably thanks to the new route opened on the Turin-Milan-Venice connection. What are you waiting for? Buy your Italo ticket to Vicenza now!
